Survey

Quantitative method to evaluate the impact of technological developments

PreviousRadarNextFuturekit

Last updated 5 years ago

As part of an integrated effort to deliver a coherent tool to assess our research methods, we have developed a survey tool designed to measure quantitatively the impact of emerging technologies.

Through the survey tool, users can assess emerging technologies and rate their positive or negative impact. The arithmetic means of both positive and negative rates gives a final score of any category presented by the survey tool. The following template shows the survey metrics structure, which can rate the perception of disruptiveness of emerging technology applications on multiple sectors:

Ratings

Impact

Description

+2

HUGE POSITIVE IMPACT

Breaks the current state of the art organization and replace it for a better one

+1

POSITIVE IMPACT

Overall makes the current system better

0

NEUTRAL OR IMPACTLESS

Replace of substitute the current process of technology in place, but do not really improve or change it

-1

NEGATIVE IMPACT

Add complexity but value is not really obvious

-2

HUGE NEGATIVE IMPACT

Add complexity without adding any value; may not be desired because of huge implementation costs

The techDetector Survey Tool

The techDetector is an analytical and interactive tool developed by GIZ and Envisioning’s team. It assesses the footprint of emerging technologies on economic, ecological, social and political participation dimensions according to the 17 parameters of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The interactive tool enables navigation between hundreds of technologies across sustainability-focused layers of the future of water, mobility, agriculture, and the technological radar for sustainable development.

The layers of the future of water, mobility, agriculture, and the technological radar for sustainable development can be measured through a survey tool. This tool works as a mechanism reflected in frameworks for the monitoring of quantitative results based on sustainable development. The survey allows users to evaluate the sustainable impact of emerging technologies presented by the overall research by simply clicking on the following link:
